Yeti is a wonderful polydactyl (having multipe "toes") suri boy who is here at our farm.
When he was born, we were rather frightened of what would become of him.
Would he be able to walk, run, etc.
He is now well into adulthood and is as happy as can be.
I teach 8th grade, and when I told my students about Yeti and told them how we were going to take him to Cornell to have his extra little feet taken off, my students looked at me in horror.
Their young wise voices told me that I had spent an entire year trying to teach them that differences didn't matter and now I was trying to make Yeti be like all of my other alpacas through surgery that would certainly hurt him.
It was one of those teachable moments where my kids taught me!
If you come to our farm, you can see Yeti and all 6 of his little feet!
You'll fall in love with him.
In Peru polydactylism is considered good luck.
We have to agree!
John and I feel fortunate to have Yeti here on our farm.
